Jamie Henigman

Mezzo-Soprano

is currently studying with Catherine Robbin as a visiting student at York University. Last April she received her Bachelors of Music from the University of Victoria, studying under Benjamin Butterfield.

Jamie has sung with numerous choirs throughout her life, starting at age 10 with Victoria's Viva choirs, under Connie More. Jamie also took an interest in small ensemble work at a young age, joining as the lead in a barbershop quartet as part of a youth division of The City of Garden's Women's Barbershop Chorus, a competition based chorus.

At age 16 she toured around south-east Asia with Prima choirs, under the direction of Bruce More; later she joined Bruce More's university choir, The UVic Chamber Singers, known for touring and performing all over the world.

Jamie's main passion however is solo performing. She has given numerous solo recitals in Victoria and has performed as a guest soloist with the University Chamber Singers and Prima Choirs.

She has performed in Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury as the Usher at the University of Victoria and has premiered two operas: The Lorax and Oholibah and her Lovers, written by a yet unpublished composer Isaiah Bell.

This past spring Jamie had the opportunity to study opera performance with well known opera singers, such as Joanne Kolomyjec, and Judith Forst at the University of Alberta's, Opera NUOVA Summer Intensive. Jamie hopes to go on to fulfill a Masters in Opera performance within Canada.
